Frequently Asked Questions
1. What kind of research are you doing? What are these studies about?
There are many different kinds of research being done, on such topics as aggression, social behavior, competitiveness, dreaming, color perception, spatial relations, learning and memory. The ways in which you participate in studies may differ. In some you may be asked to read text and later answer questions; to play a game or do role playing; to rate the similarity between different objects; to respond to certain things while you response time is measured; or you may be asked to fill out a survey. In Sona Systems each study should have a brief description posted along with contact information of the researchers if you have any questions. (back to top)

You can participate in research regardless of your status; however, cash payments can only be made to U.S. citizens, legal resident aliens, and those who have a work eligible visa. For tax purposes non-resident aliens can be compensated with gift cards but not cash. This will tell you more about the study. You can ask questions. You may be asked to sign the consent form. The researcher should begin the study after your questions have been answered. After the study is over the researcher should tell you more about the study. This is often called a “debriefing.” When the researchers offers you your payment you will be asked to provide some information like your name, address, or social security number.
